Default Can a red eared slider and painted turtle have babies?

They are very close relatives.

No. They are part of the same family, but that's it. They belong to different genera.

Red eared slider:

Genus
Trachemys

Species
Scripta

Subspecies
Elegans

Painted turtle:

Genus
Chrysemys

Species
Picta

Subspecies
Eastern (picta)
Midland (marginata)
Western (belli)
Southern (dorsalis)

The two species cannot produce offspring.
