Xbox 360 Disk Drive From Red Ringed Xbox?

I have an xbox with a broken disk reader/drive. If i replace it with a disk drive from a red ringed xbox will it work? Or are red ringed xbox's disc drives no longer good??
Yes, I am going to do the replacing myself... BUT my 360 has a broken disc drive and you can get cheap RROD xbox 360's on ebay. So i could use those to fix mine because my warranty is looong gone.
