like 2-3 weeks... if its still red after that then its infected. you need to clean it three times a day with bactine.

Never clean a piercing with bactine; it's way too harsh and totally unnecessary.

Prepare a warm salt water soak [1/4 teaspoon of sea salt mixed with 8 ounces of clean hot water] and soak your piercing twice a day. You can also purchase a can of H2Ocean and spray that on the piercing 5-6 times per day. It works beautifully.

NEVER NEVER NEVER touch your new piercing with dirty fingers! And, yes, your piercing MIGHT be infected, but with the proper aftercare you can get rid of the infection and still keep the piercing.

Be patient.

My nose piercing was infected last weekend, it was swollen, red, painful to touch and oozed puss. I cleaned it with a sea salt solution and voila it was gone! :]
